JOINT BASE ELMENDORF-RICHARDSON, Alaska -- U.S. Air Force Col. Kevin Jamieson assumed command of the 3rd Wing at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson during a ceremony July 15.
Jamieson’s previous assignment was as vice commander of the 57th Wing, Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada. He replaces Col. Travolis Simmons, who embarks on a new journey to Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia, as the 633rd Air Base Wing Inspector General.
“It is an honor and privilege to lead this Wing, and the men and women who make air dominance, global mobility and command and control happen,” Jamieson said. “I want to thank you for your service and dedication to the mission. We serve at the top of the world, defending the homeland, and projecting airpower where called to do so.”
During the event, Jamieson also thanked family and friends, key leaders, and the men and women – both service members and civilians – who make up the installation, for their continued support and outlined his priorities.
“I look forward to working with each of you and building positive relationships so as a team, we can provide the combat capability our country expects,” Jamieson said.
"Finally, to the men and women of the 3rd Wing, thank you,” Jamieson added. “My role is to make sure you are resourced, trained and ready to answer the Combatant Commanders call and I’m proud to serve with you.”
Jamieson closed out his remarks by reminding the Airmen of the 3rd Wing of their lethality and significance in the protection of the United States and the Northern Pacific border.
“Our desire is for peace in the Pacific and around the globe, but if deterrence fails, we will be ready to fly, fight, and win,” Jamieson added.
The 3rd Wing provides air dominance, global mobility, and command and control for combatant commands. This corps of professionals are dedicated to control and exploitation of the air domain to secure our nation’s interests.
In addition, the 3rd Wing is comprised of the 3rd Maintenance Group and 3rd Operations Group, housing the 3rd Operations Support Squadron, 90th Fighter Squadron, 517th Airlift Squadron, 962nd Airborne Air Control Squadron, and the 525th Fighter Squadron.
Together, they are responsible for component, equipment, aircraft, maintenance and munitions support for F-22 Raptor, C-17 Globemaster III, C-12 Huron, and E-3 Sentry aircraft and maintenance operations to support 3rd Wing taskings. Additionally, they provide premier combat-ready aerospace forces to warfighting commanders tasked to defend and protect U.S. interests in the Pacific region and around the world.
“The 3rd Wing has demonstrated its tremendous influence across our Air Force in the entire Indo-Pacific Theater,” said U.S. Air Force Lt. Gen. David Krumm, the commander, Alaskan Command, United States Northern Command; commander, Eleventh Air Force, Pacific Air Forces; and commander, North American Aerospace Defense Command Region, North American Aerospace Defense Command. “Today the 3rd Wing has found its home in the most strategic place on earth, Alaska. The men and women of the 3rd Wing play a key role in our nation’s homeland defense for NORAD, NORTHCOM, and exercise arctic capabilities with our 11th Airborne Division partners.”
Krumm closed out his remarks by reminding the Airmen of the 3rd Wing of the role they play in providing security, stability, and defending freedom and prosperity in the United States and the rest of the world.
“The work that you do, the effort that you put in, and the result makes our adversaries pause and when they pause, we win,” Krumm added. “Thank you guys for doing that.”
