Airmen from the 3rd and 477th Aircraft Maintenance Squadrons perform a hot pit refuel with an F-22 here May 1. Hot pit refueling is a procedure performed in order to rapidly refuel the aircraft and allow it to complete a second sortie in a short amount of time. The F-22 is being flown by a Reserve pilot assigned to the 302nd Fighter Squadron which falls under the 477th Fighter Group. The Reserve pilots and maintainers integrate with the active duty 3rd Wing during the week but have the opportunity to train together as a Reserve unit during the monthly Unit Training Assembly weekend.
