May 28, 2022 Commemorating the life of Tuskegee Airman Lt. Col. Asa Herring Retired Tuskegee Airman, Lt. Col. Asa Herring, passed away May 27. Asa flew more than 350 combat missions in both the Korean and Vietnam War and was the first African American squadron commander at Luke Air Force Base, Ariz.

McGee, and several members of his family, visited JBSA Dec. 6 and were treated to a heritage tour of the 99th Flying Training Squadron, where they also saw a T-1A Jayhawk on the nearby flightline with his name painted on the side.
