Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson -- Members of the 477th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron found a wallet, hubcaps and even a drive shaft during their first Adopt-A- Highway cleanup this past October.
The route, which stretches from the Armory to Arctic Valley Road on the inbound side to Anchorage, covers approximately 2.8 miles.
"The first cleanup was October 8th, we just wanted to get one in before the first snow," said Chief Master Sergeant Darren Thews, 477 AMXS Chief. "The next one will be in the spring which will require several pickup trucks for a good clean, I'm sure of it."
Senior Master Sgt. Shawn Gannon, Senior Master Sgt. Bryan Vaughn, Key Spouse Catherine Thews, Staff Sgt.Wade Lawrence, Chief Master Sgt. Ben Dorsey, Jordann Russell and Staff Sgt. Mitchell Chambers, all members of the 477th Arctic Raptor Keepers' squadron, participated in the October event.
"Anyways, FUN was had by all and we are looking forward to the next roundup!" said Thews. "We have pride in our jets and also in our community."
