Airmen, [Windows 10] Welcomes You

What does it mean when you are mandated to upgrade 168 computer operating systems and replace 154 computer workstations to meet Windows 10 compliance by the March 31, 2018? The changeover means the Air Force Cyber will be undeniably busy. The 477th Force Support Squadron Cyber team recently planned and began executing this monumental task for the 477th Fighter Group this past November Unit Training Assembly. With a room filled with ambitious technicians ready to execute their mission, they formed into nimble teams and began the arduous task of installing and configuring 110 workstations for the entire 477 FG. As the weekend ended, nine Cyber Technicians provided 140 man hours and completed the task of implementing the Windows 10 mission, to include verifying each system was operational. The workload on a UTA is no different from your everyday computer tech’s daily work on the civilian side, except our Cyber team (of both military and one civilian) only have the weekend to complete this task. But there is more to this story.

This monumental task would not have been possible if not for our active duty counterparts. “The Air Force active duty at JBER, AK went above and beyond by providing 110 computers to support all units.” Said Technical Sgt. Collier, the 477 FG Cyber Superintendent. “The support the active duty provided us for this changeover has greatly enhanced our defenses within the cyber domain.” Protecting the Cyber domain is no easy task, and requires hard work and constant vigilance from every cyber component within the DoD. On this domain, the enemy can take action instantaneously; were hackers can reach across the globe instantly while remaining anonymous. The new security features in Windows 10 will allow the DoD to stop most of these cyber threats through a more robust underlying security system, while also allowing cyber teams to detect malicious activity.

The Change:

So how good are you with change? The windows 10 operating system changes how you navigate and find programs. There are significant changes from turning the machine on to logging off as the user. But this has been the case with each transition from one operating system to the next.
