Nov. 11 is Veteran’s Day

Why is Veterans Day always “the eleventh day of the eleventh month?”

World War I – known at the time as “The Great War” - officially ended when the Treaty of Versailles was signed on June 28, 1919, in the Palace of Versailles outside the town of Versailles, France. However, fighting ceased seven months earlier when an armistice, or temporary cessation of hostilities, between the Allied nations and Germany went into effect on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. For that reason, November 11, 1918, is generally regarded as the end of “the war to end all wars.” Read the history here.

Goldfein’s three focus areas

During his first address as the Chief of Staff of the Air Force at the Air Force Association's Air, Space and Cyber Conference, General Goldfein announced his three focus areas for the next four years.

1) Revitalizing squadrons – Re-evaluate the makeup of Air Force’s fundamental unit, the squadron, and determine what a 21st-century squadron needs to look like.

2) Strengthening joint leaders and teams – Improve how the Air Force develops joint leaders and how the Air Force teams with other services for the future.

3) Advancing multi-domain, multi-functional command and control – Advance multi-domain, multi-component command and control capabilities so the service is more networked and can make decisions rapidly.
