The 477th FG was originally established in May 1943 as a Bombardment Group to train the legendary World War II aviators known as the Tuskegee Airmen. The 477th Fighter Group was reactivated on October 1, 2007 at Elmendorf Air Force Base as the first Air Force Reserve unit to fly, maintain, and support the world’s most capable fighter aircraft.
