“Our ability to reach unity in diversity will be the beauty and the test of our civilization.” -Mahatma Ghandi
As a nation, I think we can all agree that we don’t always agree. But does that make us less human or more? Does it make our society stronger or weaker? Does it grow our influence or shrink it?
I believe diverse backgrounds, respectful disagreements and alternative viewpoints are the bonds that bring us together. If the blanket of our society was homogeneous, our thinking and culture would be pretty bland. I for one, enjoy the variations! I adore the different textiles, textures and colors that give essence to the fabric of our nation. I believe our experiences act like a sharp needle, penetrating the rough edges of our beliefs and sewing us together with a common thread. I’m attracted to changing patterns that compliment, contrast or accentuate each other and give an amalgamated beauty to solitary pieces; much like the alternating landscapes and scenery of our beautiful country. Yes, diversity is good and although hard to understand at times, diversity gives us universal views and opportunities to march towards a better future for us all!
So embrace diversity, understand its value to your work center, team or personal life and commit to an inclusive practice for people from all walks of life!
